Over the last couple of weekends, as graduations have been held around Berkshire County, you may have noticed the crisp, white tents in the backyards of many residents. Underneath those tents, many embellished with balloons in school colors, emotions run the gamut from a graduate’s joy and anticipation, to the bittersweetness felt by most parents. There are many similarities as you travel from party to party…hugs, tears, smiles, goodbyes, flashing cameras…but each family is about to embark on a unique journey with their now-grown child.
Our older daughter, an accomplished artist, recently graduated from Lee High School and is heading off to college in a couple of short months, where she will undoubtedly encounter a whole new world. As we began to plan her party in our own backyard, we tried to consider her uniqueness, and decided to set up a small frame tent as a make-shift art gallery. When the guests started to arrive, they were greeted by hundreds of pieces of art, beginning with some she had done in pre-school and ending with some magnificent renderings from her more recent years. I’m excited to see how her art continues to evolve as she embarks on this new journey!
So to our daughter, and to the hundreds of other graduates around our region, we say congratulations and best wishes!

Okay, so we’ve all been to a million weddings by now, and after awhile, they all start to feel the same. Today’s bride is very aware of this and each wants to make her day stand out from the rest. Many couples are creating signature drinks for their weddings and some are even incorporating coffee and martini bars!
Classical Tents offers a broad range of glassware, from the standard water goblets, champagne flutes and red and white wine glasses, to an impressive array of martini glasses, pilsner glasses and our newest stemless martini glasses, all affordably priced. And not all martini glasses need to be filled to the brim with alcohol…as you can see from the photographs below, designers are incorporating them into the wedding decor! Now, not every martini had today, has to be filled with hours of regret tomorrow!!

These days, it seems like everyone is living an overloaded, stress-filled life, with no time to “stop and smell the roses.” Is it any wonder, then, that many couples are opting for a low-key, rustic, simple wedding? Farms and barns and country weddings are on the rise, but not every barn is wedding-ready! Well, why not bring the farm to you?
At Classical Tents, we recently introduced our farm-top tables and benches, and boy, have they been popular! Available in two sizes, they are equally attractive paired with either rustic benches or elegant bamboo seating, and look simply fabulous decked out with all the linen and fine china trimmings!
Check out some of the different looks, below. And be on the lookout for our new rustic barn flooring, coming soon (barefoot dancing not recommended!)!

We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the country, and when it comes to magnificent wedding sites, Berkshire County does not disappoint! Classical Tents recently set the stage (no, literally, we set up staging!) for a lovely wedding held at The Mount, the summer “cottage” of Gilded Age author Edith Wharton (think “The Age of Innocence” and ”Ethan Frome”). Because this venue offers such breathtaking scenery, we decided it best to use a structure tent with alternating white and clear ceiling panels and windowed sidewalls, allowing the guests to enjoy unobstructed views of the distant hills and spectacularly manicured gardens. For her color scheme, the bride chose a soft palette of champagne and pink, which exuded the romance of the event and blended seamlessly with the mansion’s elegant surroundings. As is quickly becoming the trend, the couple opted to bring in our lounge furniture, for a comfortable, sit-back-and-relax feel. What an amazing backdrop to celebrate the start of a new life together!

Since the summer wedding season is upon us, I thought it would be fun to share some of the latest trends that we’ve been spotting:
- “Look-At-Me-Now!” Color Schemes—Instead of going with the classic, soft wedding colors, more brides are opting for a little more “wow!” with bright, vivid colors setting the backdrop for their nuptials. (Think hot pink or turquoise paired with a bold orange.) Especially hot right now: Centerpieces in one bold color.
- Uncommon Themes—Go for the personal touch by opting out of the traditional wedding motifs and choosing a theme based on your favorite place to go as a couple, or perhaps even a “journey through your love timeline!” I’ve even seen a wedding cake by Holly Evans that spun a visual tale of two cities! (No, really…it depicts where the bride and groom grew up!)
- Amazing Invitations—While traditional wedding invitations still rule, the newer, and brightly colored letterpress designs (think die-cut, too!) totally ROCK! Keeping with the “make-it-personal” theme, couples are opting to bring some personality into their invites and save-the-dates, working with designers like Rebecca Ashby at The Pink Orange for some stationery inspiration!
- “Green” Favors—Okay, I think we’ve all had our fill of candles, soaps and every edible “mint-to-be-together”…why not choose something a little bit more eco-friendly? Couples are increasingly giving herb pots or seeds or tiny trees as take-home gifts (and my personal fave? A donation to the couple’s favorite charity in the names of all their guests!). I mean, how many tiny silver frames can we fit in our junk drawers anyway?!
- Living Room to Go! —Gone are the days of ceremony pew-to-dinner table-to-dance floor… Lounge furniture is all the rage now (think Miami night club)…make your guests as comfortable as possible and keep the drinks coming! Classical Tents has a full line of beautiful lounge furniture in stock for your entire wedding rental needs!
‘Til next time…
