It’s May 1st already! Amazing how quickly time goes! While there are many celebrations that occur during the month of May, we shouldn’t ignore the sweet tradition of the first day of the month. Did you know…May Day is related to the Celtic festival of Beltane and the Germanic festival of Walpurgis Night. I don’t really know what all that means, but what I know is it’s the day to celebrate springtime and the earth’s fertility! We often see images of May Poles and May Baskets, which make for a fresh and inviting party theme. May Baskets were traditionally hung on the handle of a person’s front door. The gift-giver would ring the doorbell and run away (which is much nicer than the pranking alternative!), and then the receiver would open the door and try to catch the runner. If caught, they had to kiss! Anyway…enjoy the images we’ve found below, and have a wonderful rest of the day!
